Blind Date

It used to be that you were set up on a blind date by well-meaning friends that were concerned that you would never get married.  The blind date effort was typically arranged in a double date offering with your best friend and her current boyfriend.

All of the promises that were made about this person that you have never laid eyes on were totally wrong.  The idea of asking you go on the blind date in the first place was wrong.  The uncomfortable way the offer made you feel was totally wrong.

The tension and apprehension that you felt as you dressed for an evening out made you realize that you were doing something you did not want to do and there was really no way you could let your friends down by backing out.

You stare at yourself in the mirror on the dresser and wonder why you do not have more dates, and finally realize it is because you have not really tried.  You do not go anywhere to meet anyone except church and there are not enough people your age there to even consider dating them.

At least at church, you have seen the people you would be going out on a blind date with.  What is happening is that you are taking the word of your friend at face value.  Evidently she or he has at least met this individual and, by their standards he would make a good date and allow you the opportunity to have a night of fun for a change.

Reminding yourself that it is only one night that you will have to do spend with this stranger, you keep glancing at the clock and waiting for the doorbell to ring and adjust your clothes repeatedly.  Sweat starts beading up on your forehead and fear creeps again into your thoughts.

You have resigned yourself to spending the evening with a stranger and make yourself develop a positive attitude about something you think is ridiculous.  A blind date is just that, blind.  Perhaps he will not like you.  You can only hope, as you hear the front door bell ring.  After glancing out the bedroom window to see who is in the car, and try to figure out what make and model it is, you make yourself go down the hall to meet the blind date that your good friends have so graciously arranged for you.
