Adult dating

An adult suddenly back in the single scene and once again in a dating situation may have some surprises in store, especially if you remember a date as an experience more about touching than conversation.  Maybe you remember dating locations as being more often in a car parked somewhere than in an elegant restaurant or at a concert. 

Rest assured, dating has changed in many ways, not the least of which is being able to enjoy a multitude of activities which would have been unappreciated as a teenager.

Adult dating is less about the conquest than about the enjoyment of the companionship.  After all, by now you’ve surely learned that every acquaintance is not necessarily one you would like to marry, but you certainly have learned to enjoy friendships with the other gender.

Sex in dating may have been taken for granted as a teenager, or you may have chosen to wait for marriage, but adult dating is different.  If a date leads to sexual activity, it’s a matter of choice between consenting adults.

Yes, special touches for a date are still a great idea.  Perhaps a single rosebud for a vase brought by the man, or a woman may choose to bring along a favorite bottle of wine, or a CD of a favorite artist, for her male date.  The importance of the gift is not the cost but the fact that the other person knows you took the time to find out about likes and dislikes.

Presumably, adult dating enjoys some activities common to both the adults.  If there are no interests in common, probably the dating is not such a good idea.  Unless the adults are emphatically certain that they will never be married in the future, some interests in common would be a good way to spend an afternoon or evening exploring.  Your planned activities should be flexible enough to try something different if the first plan is a total bust.

This is not to say that there should be no romance in adult dating.  Quite the contrary, a hug, kiss, poetry reading, listening to mood music and romantic walks on the seashore still have the power to put stars in your eyes.  It’s also a fact that there is much more to life than a romantic moon overhead.
